Common Acid Reflux Symptoms

Generally, one can suspect if they have acid reflux by recognising the general acid reflux symptoms.

The acid reflux symptoms include regurgitation, heartburn, difficulty in breathing and coughing.

What is heartburn?
Heartburn is one of the more common acid reflux symptoms. It is described as a burning and hot feeling on the chest area due to the gastric fluid that flows from the stomach to the esophagus.

Heartburn is an acid reflux symptom that most likely to occur after meals. Heartburn are not predictable and it may occur due to the severity.

What is regurgitation?
Regurgitation is another popular acid reflux symptoms that can be seen mostly with babies. This acid reflux symptom happens to adults too except that adults do not spit so much as babies do.

Adults have stronger digestive system where regurgitation do not happen as often as for infants. It usually goes away and returns after a period of time. For babies, it occurs frequently when they are around 1 to 3 months old.

On serious cases, the worst acid reflux symptom that can be seen happening to adults are nausea and vomiting. It is still unclear why nausea take place with some people while some people experience heartburn.

Ulcers on the esophagus walls are also acid reflux symptoms. The gastric fluid or acid that comes from the stomach to the esophagus causes ulcers to develop along the esophagus walls.

People who have ulcers on their esophagus will have esophagus inflammation. It is the body response to the fluid. This can leads to bleeding if it is not treated soon.

Change in the cells of the esophagus is another acid reflux symptom. This one is dangerous as the cells are pre-cancerous and can leads to cancer if not treated or, treated late.

If the condition has worsen, the treatment needed for it includes blood transfusions, endoscopic procedure and surgery.

Relationship between Asthma and Acid Reflux
Not all the time asthma means an acid reflux symptom. It is just a higher possibility that people with asthma will have acid reflux. As mentioned, acid reflux causes short breaths due to the tightening of the esophagus, asthma can be considered as an acid reflux symptom.

Lastly, inflammation on the throat is an aid reflux symptom which often causes the person to have sore throat and a coarse voice. Although unclear of how it actuall affects and bring results of sore throat, it is most likely due to the gastric fluid that damages the esophagus and the larynx when acid reflux occurs too frequently.

Acid reflux can be diagnosed through many ways. This includes endoscope, biopsies, x-rays, examination of the throat and larynx and acid testing.

Many people will opt for a lifestyle change and pay more attention and care to their health.

Lifestyle change includes eating better and healthier food such as increase intake of vegetable and fruits, cutting down on fried and fatty foods, cutting down on bad habits such as smoking and drinking alcoholic beverages.
